Today, our darling Stella turned 3. I can hardly believe it. I remember the day she was born so clearly. She was five days late, in the heat of summer and I desperately wanted this baby to come. I’m convinced my friend Jen finally threw me into labor with the special brew of coffee she made for me that morning.
I remember getting lots of “feedback” on her name once it was finally announced. People kept shouting at me, “STEL-LA” (you know, A Streetcar Named Desire). I swear I have never seen the movie. One night, when we were having a difficult time deciding on a name, Earl called me out onto the deck where the sky was clear and the stars were shining brightly. And so her name became Stella, as in the famous jazz standard, Stella by Starlight. No need to shout, just Stella. Stella Grace.
My sweet Stella is loving, sensitive and seriously funny. She’s strong, she doesn’t require much sleep and she eats all our food. I am so blessed to be her mom. Here’s what we did today to celebrate:
Logan helped me make some butterfly cupcakes!
We played and we went swimming!
We ate pizza, per Stella’s request.
We decorated fancy hats. Look out ladies, this one’s gonna be a heart breaker. And he’s a mama’s boy, so tread carefully.
And, we ATE cupcakes! What a sweet celebration of a fabulous little life. And she sparkles like the stars.
